Tentative Schedule
January 19
What is transliteration? We will begin by bringing all of our ideas into this class container and see what it generates. Please come with examples of artists who you think are working with transliteration or have a transliteral practice.
January 26
What might it mean to transliterate with materials? We will do a series of short exercises to explore the possibilities of working between different modes of sensing and sidling material meaning in motion.
February
This month we will all be bringing texts to share and explore together. This month will be a mixture of discussion and short exercises, building towards working with longer-form prompted explorations.
March
By March, each person will have their own project direction. This month will be focused on work time with in-process check-ins. We will also experiment with language as an alternative mode of creating artist statements as we move towards thinking about how we might share our work in April.
April
This month will be dedicated to sharing and celebrating the works we’ve created in this class container.

These long form DOTS exploratory modules are an opportunity to go deep into themes and process. As with the drop-in drawing sessions, these sessions are process rather than outcome based, but with the long-form there is space to let ideas develop over time in a supportive community of other drawers. This may take the form of “final” works, or a series of works, or another shape altogether.
Along with the live sessions, you will receive access to a module page with short essays, artwork examples, readings, and drawing exercises. You will also receive a Dropbox folder link to upload and share your work and view the works of others in the class.
We meet using Google Meet so you will need a device with audio and video capabilities, as well as the ability to photograph your work and upload it to a shared Google Drive folder. After registering you will receive a confirmation email with links to Google Meet, module page, and Dropbox Folder
